The Granite Tour HALF DAY

This trip is available on Fridays. Departure from Le Dune at 7:40. The Northern Gallura inland regions represent a fantastic resource for the North of Sardinia, a jewel of an area full of well-preserved and maintained ancient traditions set in a priceless natural environment. This tour presents a particularly rewarding itinerary that goes from the hotel to the slopes of Monte Limbara through the gentle hills covered with incredible natural sculptures created in the local granite by the Mistral wind. During the first break it will be possible to visit the “Nuraghe Majori”, an archaeological site of great interest just outside Tempio Pausania. Then we will take a short stroll through the alleys and streets of the city centre and look at the typical stone churches that date from the 17th Century,  the period of Spanish domination. A few kilometres from Tempio we come to Aggius, an elegant little town set in a rich natural environment in which each complements the other perfectly. Aggius is also a window through which to look back at how Gallura was in the 1800s and to examine the culture of the  “stazzi”; in actual fact the town hosts what is possibly the biggest and best endowed ethno-graphic museum on the whole of the island. Among other things there is a textile workshop where it is possible to watch the women of the area working on weaving looms and creating the highly prized carpets and rugs of the area in accordance with the ancient traditions. The day is rounded off with a visit to the “Banditry Museum”, since this was another important part of local history and folklore. During the tour, there will be the opportunity to taste some of the more well-known typical products. The trip lasts about  5 hours.
